The Newmans

Colleen and Joel Newman give truth to the phrase, "opposites attract".  They met on a blind date in college, and Colleen was always fiery and outgoing and daring, loved adventure and trying new things, while Joel has always been "Mr. Steady"; reserved, a quietly creative bookworm.  Colleen is living her dream of working down at the Fire Station, and Joel is trying to make a name for himself in the literary world with his first novel. The both want kids eventually, just not quite yet.

They've been married for 3 years now, and call this little split-level home.

A quick embrace before Colleen heads to the Department.

Colleen is the only woman who works at the firehouse, but that doesn't bother her one bit.  She's always seemed to fit in better with the guys, and has little patience for female drama. Her only real close girlfriend is her neighbor, Rishelle Glenister. Being the only woman here has its perks too, like- she never has to buy when they order lunch, and theres only someone there to open a door for her....hey tomboys can like chivalry too!

Colleen starts off her day with a little maintenance to their one and only firetruck....this baby has got to be in tip top shape when an emergency call comes in!

After tidying up the house a bit and paying some bills (a struggling writer's favorite thing to do), he heads to Central Park to work on his first novel, titled "A Home For Her". This book has been his baby for over 2 years now, and he's so close to finishing! He always says the fresh air stimulates his imagination, and he likes to people watch- says it helps him make the interaction in his novels more realistic.

About mid-day, a emergency call is placed to the Fire Department! Apparently there is a problem over at Rosedale Memorial!  Jamie Glenister, the Fire Chief (and Rishelle's husband!) tells Colleen he thinks she's ready to handle this one. All the other guys grab their walkies and prepare the firetruck!

Colleen suits up and slides down the fireman's pole. In case you're wondering, yes, it is exactly as much fun as you would think it would be.

There is already a few horror-struck employees outside the hospital wing...

A fire has broken out in the maternity wing, and is spreading fast! Colleen leaps into action...

The panicked crowd outside grows at more passerbys become aware of the situation..

Finally, Colleen emerges from the hospital doors to announce that the situation has been resolved!  Apparently some chemicals in the lab were not disposed of properly and caused a fire; the only injured party is a lab tech, and his wounds are minor.

The crowd applauds and Colleen beams.  Jamie is so impressed with her performance that he gives her a promotion on the spot, to Fire Safety Instructor!

Back at the Firehouse, Colleen recaps her experiences to her co-workers, only embellishing a little.  They all remark that she's a pretty tough chick!

Jamie releases her from work a little early for a job well done, and Colleen heads to Central Park where she knows she is bound to find her husband.  She's can't resist buying a piece of pie from little cutie Avery Young though, who apparently thought it was a great idea to done a helmet and start a bake sale.

Colleen spots her hubby and heads over to him to eat her pie and tell him about her eventful day.  His eyes don't leave the computer and his hands hammer the keyboard, and he mutters something about listening. "And then the aliens abducted me and probed me with pencils and introduced me to their leader, Elvis".  "Oh wow interesting....." Joel mumbled, and Colleen chuckled. There was no stopping that boy when he got on a "writing roll" as he called it.

Colleen leaves him be to go grill up some hot dogs for dinner.

She can't help but notice an amusing scene....partners Anthony Willis and Justine Keaton in full uniform playing hopscotch across the park.....our tax dollars at work?

As the sun sets, Joel finally breaks and the couple eats their grub.

The duo rounds out their night by following suit with their fellow park-goers, and watching a meteor-shower before heading home.

The next morning, things get a little hot and steamy in the bathroom...

They both enjoyed their shower more than usual that morning...

After getting dressed, they break out some leftover waffles and eat breakfast together. One of the selling points of this house was this big open window in the kitchen, they love being able to watch the sunrise.

When Joel sits down to his novel today, he is DETERMINED to finish it!

Colleen starts her day with a good workout at the Firehouse- gotta work off that pie from yesterday!

Joel finally submits his finished manuscript, and the good news doesn't take long to roll in- "A Home For Her", the story of an abused orphan, entering America by Ellis Island and nearly turned away, is being hailed by the critics as a "Masterpiece" and saying its a "Sure BESTSELLER" and "Will resonate true in American hearts and bring new meaning to America's reputation as a Melting Pot!" Joel can't believe it!

His publisher tells him to not waste anytime, and start working on another novel to ride the huge success of this first one.  He's had another idea in mind for awhile, and starts work immediatley on "Of Trouble and Peace", a historical drama based on a romance between a patriot's widow and a redcoat during the Revolutionary War.

He takes a break soon though, to call his wife and tell her the great news! It rings and rings and then goes to voicemail- she's a bit caught up at the moment...

...putting out a small fire that has broken out in the Macintyre home!

Colleen is starting to feel like an old pro at this, and puts out the fire in no time.  What a week this girl has had! Jamie is blown away by her progress, and promotes her again to Hose Handler!  Our girl is only one step away from the title of true firefighter!

  1. Great story! I love the description of them, and the chemistry between the two priceless! I give the story a big fat A! You deserve it... well done!

  2. We didn't fight the British in the Civil War. The second book you said he was writing couldn't have been about a Patriot's Widow and a Redcoat... You must have meant the Revolution.
